Short introduction into the research in the Heyden research group at ASU and our motivation.

School of Molecular Sciences Dean’s Medalist has a passion for codingHolly Hemesath, who is graduating this December with a Bachelor of Science and the Dean’s Medal, had thought coding was like learning a foreign language and that it was just a lot of memory work. She soon realized, upon compounding programming with biochemistry, that it provides one with an essentially limitless potential to create anything one might need or want.

ASU student first author on dynamic water-protein interactions research articleIn biological systems, proteins interact with water located within or between cells. To better understand these interactions, ASU online School of Molecular Sciences alumna Tawny Fajardo and School of Molecular Sciences Assistant Professor Matthias Heyden, through computer simulations of a small peptide, studied the underlying components of the potential energy and entropy that determine the peptide’s structural and dynamical properties.
